$325.00

Item No. 4274722

Major Hiram S. Bradford, a Confederate adjutant, wrote out this order of battle for the Army of Kentucky in July 1862, just before it joined in General Braxton Bragg’s invasion of Kentucky. Though unnamed, the Army was commanded by Major General E. Kirby Smith. The order of battle as of July 19, as written to an unidentified quartermaster, lists two divisions at Chattanooga, commanded by Brigadier General Thomas J. Churchill and Brigadier General Henry Heth. Also listed are two legions (Hilliard’s and Smith’s), three cavalry battalions, and three unattached artillery batteries. After the cavalry listings, Major Bradford writes, “The commands changing almost every day.” Smith’s army would advance into Kentucky in August and toward the end of the month would achieve a victory at Richmond, where General Churchill and his division played a significant role.

The order of battle was written on one side of a sheet of paper measuring about 8” x 13 1/2”. It is briefly docketed on the reverse. Very good condition with light foxing and toning. Creased at folds. Some slight edge separation has been previously repaired with clear tape. The transcript follows:
