This early patriotic cover titled “STRAYED” offers commentary on the early-war Missouri confrontations between Union General Nathaniel Lyon and Confederate General Sterling Price. The caption reads:

From the neighborhood of Boonville, Mo. an ugly JACK who was frightened by the sudden appearance of a Lion, his Jockey, one PRICE being made very sick by the same appearance. He is of no value whatever and only a low PRICE can be given for his capture. Sam.

The cover is in good condition with light toning, particularly to the corners. Measures 5 7/8” x 3 1/4”.
